What is French Polishing?

French polishing is a wood finishing technique that produces a high-gloss surface with a deep colour. It involves applying several thin coats of liquid shellac using a rubbing pad lubricated with one of several oils, creating a quality finish that leaves dull surfaces looking as good as new.

This technique is a fantastic way to accentuate exotic wood grain, and usually creates a softer finish than modern varnishes and lacquers. It is also easier to repair than traditional and contemporary varnish finishes.
